Ol' theater ace, Oliver Masucci, still gets a kick out of performing on stage, despite his seven-year cinematic stint. Born and bred in Stuttgart, Masucci's love for the limelight never waned. A series of national and international film and TV roles, including a win at the German Film Awards and an international following from "Dark," couldn't quench his thespian thirst.
Then came his autobiographical book readings, sparking his affection for the stage once more. As he explained to the German Press Agency, "It's all about feeding off that audience energy. There's a connection with them that can't be replicated in front of a camera." Masucci fessed up that he'd even grown a tad too big for his britches while snarling at the cameras, a humbling reminder that a little audience interaction can ground even the most egotistical performer.
Masucci's upcoming gig gracing the Hamburg stage as Hogwarts' very own Severus Snape in "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" left him in awe, 'cause apparently, there's just something magical about live performance that screen work can't touch. Recent roles in "Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secrets" and "Bad Director," where he played an annoying film director, didn't foster any longing for the spotlights, until these enchanting readings brought him back to the heart of the theatrical arts.
As for performing before the camera, Masucci's advice is simple: "Far too big, becomes vain?" Nah, girl, that's just called scoring a major role, but in the theater, he finds that audiences are far more invested, "As I said, I didn't miss it at all. But now that I've experienced it again for the first time, I thought: Wow! And that's just beautiful."
