Oliver Luksic to Call for Scheuer's Confirmation by Toll Investigation Panel

In a surprising turn of events, the public prosecutor's office has taken up the toll issue, investigating former Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) for suspected false testimony. This move follows the findings of the toll investigation committee, which scrutinized the roles of Scheuer and former FDP chairman Oliver Luksic in decisions and actions surrounding the motorway toll system in Germany.

The committee's results, according to Luksic, were crystal clear, revealing issues with transparency, accountability, and the awarding of contracts related to the toll project. Scheuer faced criticism for contract awards that led to significant financial risks for the government and questionable legal grounds.

Luksic, in an interview with the Rheinische Post, expressed his surprise at the public prosecutor's involvement, stating that political responsibility in such cases often remained within parliamentary committees or administrative oversight. He further added that the budget and procurement law, as well as the rights of parliament, were ignored in the toll issue.

Interestingly, Luksic suggested that the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling could have been waited for, or a modified toll could have been taken after the ECJ ruling, to avoid the current situation. This implies that he sees the toll fiasco as a problem or scandal related to tolls.

The toll investigation committee, likely referred to as the U-committee, was established to examine allegations surrounding the toll issue. Its findings have now escalated the case beyond political or administrative critique, with the potential for legal action, indicating the complexity and potential gravity of the allegations tied to their conduct in the toll affair.
