New Chief Takes the Helm at Constantin Film
Oliver Berben ascends to the top post of film and television powerhouse Constantin Film. Beginning March 1, 2024, the 52-year-old current deputy will assume the reins as CEO, as announced by the company in Munich this Thursday. Longtime leader Martin Moszkowicz (65) will let his contract expire as planned and by his own choice on February 29, 2024, and subsequently take up a producer role within Constantin Film. Moszkowicz quipped, "We've been planning this for a while - now the moment is here for the younger generation."
As pioneers in the German cinema scene since the '90s, Bernd Eichinger—Constantin Film's former cornerstone—and his triumphant films have long come to represent the enterprise. The company, however, recently faced backlash after claims surfaced of alleged harassment and an inconducive atmosphere during the filming of Til Schweiger's "Manta Manta - Zwoter Teil." Constantin chose to investigate these allegations and working conditions, and subsequently, announced their intention to uphold stricter production standards.
Berben, son of the acting icon Iris Berben, has been an executive at Constantin Film AG since early 2021, holding the helm of the TV, Entertainment, and Digital Media division. His upcoming tenure as CEO will undoubtedly build on the momentum of past successes such as "Fack ju Göhte" and "Das Parfum," as well as future projects like "Monster Hunter" and "Welcome to Raccoon City."
Jan Ehlert has been appointed to head up TV/streaming, and Viola Jäger will be responsible for content in theatrical/film, both reporting directly to Berben. With an ambitious slate of films and series in the pipeline, including "Sun And Concrete," "In The Lost Lands," and "Hagen," a high-budget feature and six-part series centered on the Nibelungen saga, Constantin Film looks primed for continued success.
Considering Berben's deep-rooted history at Constantin Film, spanning over two decades, it comes as no surprise that he's been chosen for this prominent role. From part-time work as a driver and runner, to climbing the corporate ranks, Berben has been a driving force in the company's triumphs, particularly with international hits like the "Resident Evil" series.
