OL Reign snatches last-gasp 2-1 win over winless Racing Louisville

OL Reign secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Racing Louisville on Saturday. The winning goal came deep into stoppage time, extending the team's unbeaten run against Louisville to four matches.

The result leaves Racing Louisville still searching for their first win of the season, now sitting at 0-2-1. The match started poorly for Louisville when keeper Jordyn Bloomer fumbled a shot in the 10th minute. The error allowed Maddie Mercado to open the scoring for OL Reign—her second goal in as many games.

Mercado had failed to score in the entire 2023 NWSL season while playing for the Portland Thorns. Her recent form has been a bright spot for her new side.

Nérilia Mondésir doubled OL Reign's lead with her first goal of the season. The strike looked to have sealed the points, but Macy Blackburn pulled one back for Louisville in the dying seconds.

Just as the game seemed headed for a draw, OL Reign found a late winner in stoppage time. The goal made it 2-1, capping a tense finish. Ainsley McCammon, aged just 17, also made history by becoming the youngest player to record an assist for the club.

Claudia Dickey played a key role in the win, making several crucial saves in the second half. Her performance helped OL Reign hold on under late pressure.

The victory keeps OL Reign second in the NWSL standings. Meanwhile, Racing Louisville remains winless after three matches.

Next up, OL Reign will face Denver Summit FC on April 4. The expansion side recently set a league attendance record, drawing 63,004 fans for their first home game. OL Reign's late winner extends their dominance over Racing Louisville. The team now prepares for a high-profile clash against Denver Summit FC.

For Louisville, the loss deepens their early-season struggles, with no points from their opening three matches.
