Oktoberfest Security Scandal: Two Arrested for Money Laundering, Corruption
Oktoberfest was disrupted Saturday night when two security personnel were arrested for suspected money laundering and corruption. The Munich Criminal Police seized a low four-digit sum and several hundred euros from the men, who were also charged with violating Oktoberfest regulations.
The incident occurred at a packed beer tent, typical of the Wiesn during Oktoberfest. Two pickpocket detectives noticed the men letting guests in after 8 PM, allegedly in exchange for money. The two 31-year-old suspects, both from the security team, were immediately dismissed.
The Munich criminal police are now investigating the case, focusing on potential links to money laundering and bribery. Officials and businesspersons are suspected of exchanging illicit payments for favorable contracts and financial gains, although exact identities and detailed circumstances remain under investigation.
The arrested men were taken to the Wiesn watch following their arrest. The Oktoberfest organisers have expressed their commitment to maintaining a safe and law-abiding environment, and they are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
