Oktoberfest Church Service: A Rare Moment of Reflection Amidst the Festivities
In an unusual yet poignant scene, a church service was held during the first week of Munich's Oktoberfest in the Marstall tent. Only six men, drinking wine from a golden chalice, attended the service led by a pastor without a fixed church and a village without a fixed village square.
The service, an annual tradition during the first 'Wiesn' week, was led by Father Sascha Ellinghaus, who heads the Catholic Circus and Showmen's Chaplaincy of the German Bishops' Conference. One of the six attendees, speaking into the microphone, quoted a line from the Lord's Prayer: 'And lead us not into temptation'. The crowd, moved by the moment, stood up and sang 'Praise the Lord'. Even the Royal Bavarian Full Gas Orchestra's usual spot echoed with a hallelujah.
This unique Oktoberfest church service, held in the Marstall tent, brought together a small group of men for a moment of reflection and unity amidst the festive atmosphere. The event, led by Father Ellinghaus, serves as a reminder of the diverse traditions that Oktoberfest encompasses.
