In a Recent Interview, Ifeanyi Okowa Slams Bukola Saraki's Comment on His APC Defection
Okowa Challenges Saraki's Moral Authority on My Defection Matter
According to a report by our website, Ifeanyi Okowa, the current Governor of Delta State, and his associates, were warmly welcomed into the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC's National Chairman Umar Ganduje, and other party leaders on Monday.
During an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, Okowa clarified his decision to switch parties saying it was in his best interest.
When asked about the former Senate President Bukola Saraki's comments on his defection, Okowa replied that he hadn't watched Saraki's speech but heard about it. He asserted that, as political comrades in Delta State, they make decisions together, and he follows the decisions of his political family due to lack of alternative political platform.
The former Vice President's running mate in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed frustration that Saraki, who once moved to the APC and then returned to the PDP, would comment on his defection. Okowa questioned Saraki's moral right to do so given his history of party hopping.
Okowa went on to explain that the PDP has seen internal struggles, and their stakeholders and leaders in Delta State had made the decision to look for a new political vehicle for the 2027 elections based on the current state of the PDP and the apparent unreadiness of the PDP to compete in the upcoming elections.
Insights
- Saraki and Okowa have a history of disagreements, with Saraki being expelled from PDP in 2018 and later joining APC, only to return to the PDP in 2019. Okowa's response can be seen as a reflection of that history and a dismissal of Saraki's claims.
