Oklahoma State University football team secures a new transfer quarterback, following Hauss Hejny's injury.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are gearing up for a challenging final stretch of their disappointing season, and they've added some much-needed depth at quarterback with the arrival of transfer Noah Walters.
Walters, who began his college career at North Alabama in 2022, showcased his talent early on. As a sophomore, he threw 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while passing for more than 2,300 yards. His impressive performance earned him the ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year award in 2022.
After a redshirt year at UCF ahead of the 2024 season, Walters is now eligible to play for Oklahoma State. This comes at a crucial time for the Cowboys, who are weeks removed from starting quarterback Hauss Hejny's foot injury and subsequent surgery.
The addition of Walters couldn't come at a better time for Oklahoma State, who have been struggling this season. The team finished with a disappointing record of 3-9 and 0-9 in conference play, marking their worst record since 1991's 0-10-1 season.
The Cowboys were blown out by Oregon 69-3 in their last game, a performance that saw starting quarterback Zane Flores complete seven of his 19 pass attempts for 67 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.
With Walters now part of the team, the Cowboys are looking to turn things around. They are back in action Friday night against Tulsa, and Oklahoma State begins Big 12 play at home against Baylor next Saturday.
In the offseason, Mike Gundy, who has been leading the Oklahoma State program for the last 20 years, made some changes to his coaching staff. He hired Doug Meacham and Todd Grantham as the new offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively. The Cowboys have also brought in a large transfer class in the offseason.
Gundy's seat has been considered one of the hottest in the nation due to the team's poor performance this season. However, the addition of Walters and the changes to the coaching staff could provide a spark that the Cowboys need to turn their season around.
As Walters settles into his new role, fans will be eager to see how he performs and if he can help the Cowboys secure some much-needed wins in the remaining games of the season.
