Sochi, a popular Russian resort city, has been under attack by Ukrainian drones, targeting key energy infrastructure and causing significant damage.

On the night of August 4-5, 2025, Ukrainian drones successfully struck an oil depot in Sochi, igniting large fires and causing extensive damage to the facility. The attacks have crippled fuel supplies critical for Russian military operations, marking a significant escalation in Ukraine's efforts to disrupt Russia's logistics and economy.

The attacks, part of Ukraine's broader strategy to hit "soft targets" deep inside Russian territory, have also resulted in multiple strikes across Russia, including oil refineries, storage facilities, and a drone storage base in the Krasnodar region.

Russian air defenses have claimed to have intercepted hundreds of Ukrainian drones in response, indicating an intense drone warfare campaign between the two sides. The disruption of Russia's fuel supplies at Sochi poses long-term challenges for the country's military logistics, while the strikes have caused large-scale fires, economic damage, and even civilian casualties in some regions.

Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev and Sochi Mayor Andrei Pushkarev are personally monitoring the situation, with operational services and emergency services on site at the locations of the attacks. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, with 127 people and 35 units of equipment on site.

In response to these attacks, Russia has intensified the deployment of air defense systems around strategic infrastructure and has been penalizing civilians who film the attacks. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties from the drone attack in Sochi.

During the night, air defense forces shot down 60 drones over the Black Sea. The rocket threat in Sochi has been lifted, and no further information has been provided about the incident on Aviatsionnaya Street.

These drone attacks represent a significant escalation in Ukraine's targeting of Russian infrastructure, aimed at undermining Russia’s war effort and economy while prompting enhanced Russian defensive measures. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
