Kickoff of Hamburg's Christmas Magic
Most of Hamburg's magical Christmas markets will commence on a Mondays. The star attraction, happening at the charming town hall, is expected to draw nearly three million visitors eager to peruse close to 80 stalls. Founder Bernhard Paul from Roncalli is scheduled to make an appearance at 11 a.m. for the opening ceremony. Inspired by the motto "Art before Commerce," Roncalli's Christmas market is set to entertain the city.
This year, a grand total of 36 Christmas markets will captivate visitors with offerings of mulled wine, scrumptious baked goods, and artisanal crafts on the bustling streets and squares of the historic Hanseatic city. While the number of markets remains unchanged compared to last year, the stall count is expected to increase by roughly twenty-five to around 550.
Many markets will open well before the advent season begins, with the ever-popular Wandsbek Winterzauber already in full swing since November 3rd, running until January 1st—twice the length of the actual Christmas period. Attracting plenty of attention is Hamburg's oldest market, the Christmas market at the Michel Church, which starts on Dec. 1st, marking the first Advent.
Just as mesmerizing as the Rathausmarkt at the city hall is the "White Magic" along Jungfernstieg, set to launch on a Thursday against the picturesque backdrop of the Inner Alster. The Christmas market at Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz will also not disappoint, offering an array of arts and crafts for attendees to peruse during their leisure time.
Attendees of the extended Wandsbek Winterzauber market, which runs from Nov. 3 to Jan. 1, can explore a wide variety of stalls offering a mix of mulled wine, mouthwatering sweets, and engaging crafts. As locals and tourists alike take their customary time to unwind, they are sure to be captivated by the enchanting atmosphere of the numerous Christmas markets in Hamburg.
