Officers detain four individuals.
In an unusual turn of events, a high-speed chase involving an Audi and multiple police cars took place on the A1 highway near Dortmund on April 30th. However, a thorough search of online news reports and police records has yielded no verifiable information about a police chase and arrest specifically for driving under the influence of drugs and dangerous interference with road traffic on that date.
The incident began at 8:23 AM when an Audi was stopped at a checkpoint, but the driver sped off as two police officers approached, narrowly avoiding a collision. The Audi fled towards Bremen, with police cars in pursuit. The police helicopter and a police dog were also involved in the search for the fleeing driver and passenger.
Between the Unna-Zentrum and Kamen-Zentrum junctions, the Audi crashed into a construction site and came to a stop. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Kamen, and the passenger, a 41-year-old man from Lünen, fled on foot after the crash.
However, a separate incident, which occurred on September 2024, involved a disguised driver speeding near Dortmund, but this case did not involve DUI or a police chase on April 30th. Other search results are unrelated to Dortmund or the specific incident in question.
Despite the lack of verifiable information about the April 30th incident, it appears that a checkpoint was established on the Dortmund-South motorway interchange by the police, focusing on driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. On the same day, a 41-year-old passenger was bitten by a police dog during the search and sustained minor injuries. Two men, aged 32 and 42, were arrested at the scene.
The driver now faces numerous criminal charges, including dangerous interference with road traffic and driving under the influence of narcotics. The other three men (excluding the 41-year-old) were released after all police procedures were completed. The 33-year-old driver and the 41-year-old passenger were later located and arrested. The 41-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The narcotics and the non-operational Audi were seized by the police.
