Last Friday night, a violent scuffle near Wielandplatz left a 33-year-old man badly wounded, and an 18-year-old Syrian suspect in custody.

The chaos unfolded around 10:30 PM when several individuals were seen arguing loudly among themselves. Witnesses reported that the altercation escalated, resulting in the man being stabbed.

By the time the authorities arrived, the crowd had dispersed. Officers failed to locate the injured lad initially but eventually stumbled upon him sittting wounded on the sidewalk in Wielandgasse.

Providing first aid at the scene, the officers waited for the arrival of the Vienna Fire Department, who whisked the victim off to the hospital for further treatment. The authorities assured that his life was not in imminent danger.

A local youth, who turned out to be a 17-year-old Syrian national, was soon spotted in the vicinity of the crime scene. Based on testimony from eye-witnesses and the initial investigation results, the teenager is suspected of having attacked the 33-year-old with the deadly weapon before fleeing.

The suspect was swiftly apprehended by officers of the Favoriten City Police Command at the scene itself.

According to the investigators, the alleged perpetrator had discarded the knife behind a power box in Gudrunstraße after the crime. The police managed to retrieve the incriminating evidence and secure it for their investigation.

The Vienna State Criminal Office, South Branch, is currently working on unraveling the events that transpired and determining charges.

In a recent, eerily similar incident, another 20-year-old Syrian national was held in police custody following a knife attack in Vienna-Favoriten[1]. That case, however, is not connected to the present situation.

The 17-year-old Syrian national, who is suspected of attacking the 33-year-old man, was apprehended by the Favoriten City Police Command. The pitbull, believed to have been involved in the brawl, was not found at the crime scene on Wielandplatz. Authorities are searching for the incriminating weapon, a knife, that was discarded behind a power box in Gudrunstraße.
