In a recent turn of events, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has made a strong demand for the dismissal and prosecution of the officers and men who allegedly assaulted and attempted to kill Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).

The petition, signed by IPAC's national Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, and titled 'Petition Against Your Officers and Men for threat to life, and alleged assault of Mr. Omoyele Sowore,' raises concerns about the alleged assault on Sowore while he was in police custody.

Sowore, a human rights activist, was arrested and detained after honouring an invitation at the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force. The events following his visit have been a source of controversy, with Sowore himself accusing the police of brutality and wrongful detention, and alleging torture while in custody.

The petition states that the alleged assault on Sowore was a premeditated action by the police to either maim or kill him in detention. Images from the alleged assault suggest a deliberate intent to harm, further fueling the demands for justice.

The latest developments in this saga have attracted widespread condemnation from political figures and human rights organizations. RULAAC, Amnesty International, and other groups have called for an urgent investigation into the matter, condemning the violent actions by the Nigeria Police Force and demanding immediate cessation of all abuse against Sowore.

Prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar have also spoken out against the "shameful abuse" and unlawful treatment of Sowore, calling it a personal vendetta and violation of police regulations.

Despite Sowore's release from detention, the calls for justice and inquiries into his treatment continue. The alleged assault on Sowore while in police custody is a significant concern, and the growing pressure on Nigerian authorities indicates a desire for accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
