Offenbach's Weiher Pond gets a spring clean to banish odors and debris
Maintenance work has started at Martin Luther Park's Weiher Pond in Offenbach. The city's municipal team is draining the water to prepare for cleaning and repairs. The goal is to restore the pond's appearance and prevent unpleasant smells when warmer weather arrives.
The pond is being fully emptied to allow for a thorough clean-up. Workers expect to remove around seven cubic metres of waste, including odd items like bicycles and umbrellas. Once drained, any visible cracks or damage to the concrete basin will be fixed.
Before work begins, the surrounding plant beds will be checked for waterfowl nests. The team will also search the water for fish and move any found to a nearby angling club's waters. No past records exist on fish numbers or transfers from previous clean-ups.
The fountain's mechanical parts will be serviced and reinstalled as part of the project. If temperatures stay above freezing, the fountain should be running again by Easter.
The cleaning and repairs aim to refresh the pond's condition before spring. Waste removal and structural fixes will reduce odours and improve the area's look. The fountain's return will mark the completion of the work.
