Offenbach's Kickers suffer a decisive loss in Kassel
Turns Out to Be a Rough Night for Kickers Against Kassel
On Tuesday evening, OFC faced a stern 4-1 defeat against KSV Hessen Kassel at Auestadion. The Offenbach squad found themselves two goals down at the break, and a dominant Kassel team and individual errors led to a disappointing away loss. A crowd of 7,341 spectators watched the Regionalliga clash.
Quickfire Goal by Dahlke
Coach Christian Neidhart tweaked the starting lineup slightly, replacing Sorge and Barry with Breitenbach and Mesanovic. However, Kassel controlled the game from the start. In the 2nd minute, Najjer's cross created a scare, but Dahlke headed wide. Eleven minutes later, they opened the scoring: Zografakis crossed accurately from the left, and this time Dahlke finished with a powerful volley to put Kassel up 1-0.
Missed Opportunities for OFC
The Kickers struggled to find their rhythm offensively. In the 23rd minute, Breitenbach nearly hit the target with a long-range effort, and soon after, Mustafa failed to connect with a cross from Ünlücifci at the far post. Just before halftime, Kassel extended their lead to 2-0, with Zografakis once more getting on the scoresheet after good work from Luyeye-Nkula (40.). To add insult to injury, central defender Dejanovic had to depart due to injury, with Korb taking his place.
Toothless Offensive from OFC
With fresh attacking talent - Urbich and Mensah replacing Mustafa and Mesanovic - OFC aimed to fight back. Unfortunately, Kassel continued to dominate proceedings and added two more goals: in the 58th minute, Dahlke capitalized on an OFC mistake, rounded Brinkies, and made it 3-0. Just a few minutes later, Zografakis punished the Kickers again, curling the ball into the net to extend the lead to 4-0 (61.).
Korb's Consolation Goal
Despite the substantial deficit, OFC persisted in trying to salvage something from the match. In the 80th minute, Korb scored a consolation goal after a deflected free-kick from the left corner of the penalty area. In injury time, Ünlücifci had an opportunity to net another goal, but his header was cleared off the line. The final whistle blew, and OFC left with a clear 4-1 defeat.
Future Plans: Match against Eintracht Frankfurt U21
Despite the outcome, the Kickers need to focus on the next battle. The next crucial Regionalliga contest is scheduled for this Saturday (5th April), with OFC hosting Eintracht Frankfurt U21 at Stadion am Bieberer Berg, kick-off at 2 pm.
