In the ongoing defamation trial against renowned Jewish musician Gil Ofarim, an expert witness delivered surprising testimony that could potentially shift the narrative.

At Leipzig District Court, forensic expert Dirk Labudde testified that during Gil's entry and exit from the hotel, no visible Star of David chain was evident. Contrary to the artist's allegations, the Star of David was only prominent in the Instagram video recorded outside the hotel, as revealed through an extensive investigation and analysis by the public prosecutor's office and digital forensic expert Labudde.

Back in October 2021, Gil levied severe accusations of anti-Semitism against a Leipzig hotel manager in an Instagram video. According to Gil's account, the manager purportedly demanded that the musician remove his Star of David as a prerequisite for checking in. However, the charges against the hotel manager were ultimately dropped.

The expert's statements regarding the visibility of Gil's Star of David are set to continue on Thursday, with a focus on the behavior of those involved in the hotel lobby. The trial serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough investigations and processes in uncovering the truth, as even perceived instances of anti-Semitism can wreak significant damage to an individual's reputation.
