Bayer Leverkusen, a German Bundesliga team, has acquired the services of U21 national player Tim Oermann, previously of VfL Bochum. The defender has signed a contract with Leverkusen, set to run until June 30, 2029. However, Oermann will initially be loaned to Austrian champions Sturm Graz for the upcoming season.

"Through this loan to Graz, Tim can further develop himself at a top team and gain valuable international experience that will prove beneficial for Bayer 04 in the long run," remarked Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen's sporting director, in the club's announcement. Sturm Graz is slated to compete in the Champions League playoffs.

Before his move to Leverkusen, Oermann has another notable event ahead — he is part of the German U21 national team for the European Championship in June, taking place in Slovakia. Neither Leverkusen nor Bochum disclosed the transfer fee, although it is estimated to be between €1.5 million and €2 million, reflecting Bochum's relegation status.

The versatile centre-back, who can also play on the right, will join Leverkusen's squad from the 2026/27 season onwards following his loan period with Sturm Graz. This move forms part of Leverkusen's strategy to hone Oermann's skills, with potential participation in the Champions League a significant aspect of that development plan. The exact role Oermann will play in the upcoming Champions League playoffs will depend on Sturm Graz's performance in the qualifying rounds.
