Bochum's Opta switches to Leverkusen - Oermann relocates from Bochum to Leverkusen

In a noteworthy transfer development, 21-year-old defender Tim Oermann has departed VfL Bochum to join Bundesliga vice-champions, Bayer Leverkusen. The versatile youngster has penned a deal extending to June 30, 2029. Yet, Oermann will not debut for Leverkusen immediately, as Bayer loans him to Austrian champions, SK Sturm Graz, for the upcoming season.

According to Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, the loan to Graz will enable Oermann to strengthen his skillset and acquire valuable international experience, enriching his contributions to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the long run. The Austrian club is gearing up for Champions League playoffs.

Oermann will further represent his nation at the upcoming UEFA U21 European Championships in Slovakia, held in June. The transfer fees exchanged in this deal have remained undisclosed by both Bochum and Leverkusen.

As a regular in Bochum's squad, Oermann made 51 appearances across all competitions over three seasons. He solidified his reputation as a dependable defender, making 50 appearances in the Bundesliga alone during his tenure at Bochum. His market value stands at €5 million as of May 2025.

Sturm Graz, as the reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions, present Oermann with a prime opportunity to accrue European football exposure. Leverkusen considered their playstyle beneficial for Oermann's progress and adaptation before he returns to the elite team. Sharing his excitement, Oermann highlighted the ambition at Sturm Graz and the prospect to exhibit his prowess overseas before joining Leverkusen.

Oermann's transfer history underscores Bayer Leverkusen's strategic approach, as they aim to nurture his development ahead of future Bundesliga and European competition. With his Bundesliga experience at Bochum and his upcoming international duties with the German U21s, Oermann continues to build a promising defensive career in German football.

The Commission has not yet received any information on the application of these measures in regard to the transfer of Tim Oermann from VfL Bochum to Bayer Leverkusen, which is subject to the rules of the European football leagues. Despite the loan to SK Sturm Graz for the upcoming season, Tim Oermann's long-term aspiration remains to further his skills and contribute to Bayer 04 Leverkusen's performances in both the Bundesliga and European competitions.
