Ode to MC Fats: A Celebration of His Life and Music

MC Fats, whose real name was Wildale Spencer, was a widely recognized voice in the drum and bass scene, known for his unique style and iconic collaborations. His legacy in the genre is assured, and his music will live on eternally.

MC Fats made his mark in the early 90s with his jungle and drum & bass sets, which were distinctive and influential. His discography includes several iconic tracks, such as DJ Hype's 'Peace Love and Unity', A-Side's 'What You Don't Know', and Dillinja's 'I told you How To Rock'.

One of his most notable collaborations was with A-Side on his debut album 'We Gotcha', which was a critically acclaimed release and a fundraising effort for MC Fats after health complications prevented him from performing. The album featured artists such as Break, SPY, and Alix Perez.

MC Fats' influence on drum and bass is undeniable. He worked with hundreds of artists throughout his career, including prominent producers and DJs like Break and Inja. His vocal performances can be heard on remixes and live mixes, such as the Break Remix of Delta Heavy’s "Chasing Gold," and in contemporary D&B shows and mixes like L-Side ft. MC Fats – High Times (Break Remix).

His collaborative track with Inja, 'Rock Up the Vibes', is a recent favourite in DNB feeds, while 'Natural Way (Remix)' is an example of his remix work that is embraced in the drum and bass archives.

MC Fats' influence extended beyond his own tracks, with his vocals featured in drum and bass radio mixes, festival performances, and collaborative remixes that carry his signature style. One such track was 'Drop It Down', a collaboration with Calibre that was the only track of the night to be granted a wheel-up at Calibre's AV show.

On the night of Calibre's AV show, over two thousand ravers sang loud in respect for MC Fats, creating a special moment dedicated to his memory.

MC Fats released his music on several esteemed labels, including Eastside, Shogun Audio, Metalheadz, Valve, Breakbeat Kaos, Signature, Movement, Ram, and True Playaz. His debut album 'We Gotcha' was released on his own imprint U Understand Me Music in 2014.

MC Fats passed away on March 10, leaving behind a rich legacy in the drum and bass scene. His unique style, iconic collaborations, and influential discography will continue to inspire and captivate drum and bass fans for years to come.

Celebrities in the drum and bass scene often looked up to MC Fats for his entertainment value, as his distinctive voice and iconic collaborations made him a household name.
