Declaration of Affection to the Court - 'Marzahn My Love' - Ode of Affection for the Album - "Marzahn Mon Amour"
Enter the vibrant microcosm of Marzahn, a neighborhood steeped in history and culture, distinguished by its prefabricated housing from GDR times. This captivating ARD series, "Marzahn, My Dear," inspired by Katja Oskamp's novel of the same name, presents an authentic, often poignant, yet delightful portrayal of Marzahn life. Catch it today, every Friday at 11:50 PM on the first channel, or stream it in the ARD media library.
Jördis Triebel embraces the role of Katharina Grabowski with such sincerity and authenticity that the series feels almost like a documentary—with the impressive supporting cast making it even more captivating.
Meet Jenny (Yvonne Yung Hee Bormann), the practical owner of the "Beauty Oasis Marzahn," and Lulu (Deborah Kaufmann), the creative nail artist enthusiast. The series comes alive with the clients who breathe life into the salon and pour out their hearts to Kathi.
Toes, souls, and connections
Kathi, played by Jördis Triebel, finds herself in the midst of a midlife crisis: her writing career's at a standstill, her relationship's over, and her daughter Lilly (Maja Bons) yearns to flee Berlin. Kathi joins the "Beauty Oasis Marzahn" staff to make ends meet, but soon uncovers that it's more than a job. She listens, comforts, and inspires.
Jördis Triebel is the perfect choice to play Kathi, not only due to her Marzahn roots. In an interview with ARD, she shared, "when my family and I became Marzahn's first-time residents, many areas were still under construction, and there was an optimistic vibe with countless young families moving into the new apartment buildings. Marzahn remains greener and more spacious than many might think."
Embracing Neighborhood Solidarity
"During the shoot, I fell in love with this neighborhood all over again," stated Triebel. The close-knit community of several generations still thrives in Marzahn. Triebel's heartfelt wish is that the series may inspire us all to "take a greater interest in the stories of our neighbors, those who live in our same apartment building. (...) Often, we know so little about the lives of others. There's a story behind every door, waiting to be discovered."
Clara Zoe My-Linh von Arnim, the series' director, considers the project a gift. She found Katja Oskamp's novel "incredibly honest yet loving in its portrayal of the characters. The stories are poignant but also raw and hard-hitting, revealing the dignity of the mostly older characters." von Arnim, along with screenwriters Leona Stahlmann, Niklas Hoffmann, and Antonia Rothe-Liermann, lovingly translated "Marzahn, My Dear" into six thought-provoking episodes, averaging 25 minutes each.
