OceanaGold uncovers high-grade gold at Wharekirauponga with record drill results
OceanaGold has released new drilling results from its Wharekirauponga gold project in New Zealand. The latest findings highlight multiple high-grade intersections, with several drill holes returning significant gold values. Three rigs are currently active on-site, with plans to expand operations next year. The company reported strong results from six drill holes at the Wharekirauponga deposit. Hole WKP144B cut 14.9 metres grading 16.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 466.5 metres depth, targeting the EG Vein. The same hole also intersected 5.4 metres at 6.6 g/t gold from 443.5 metres and 2.5 metres at 10.3 g/t gold from 436.9 metres in the EG HW Veins.
Nearby, WKP144A returned 5.4 metres at 25.8 g/t gold from 483.4 metres, while WKP144C hit 6.4 metres at 19.1 g/t gold from 470.7 metres, both within the EG Vein. Another hole, WKP124N, delivered 5.5 metres at 24.1 g/t gold from 623.6 metres, also in the EG Vein.
These results have helped define a new high-grade zone at the southern end of the deposit. Drilling in 2026 will aim to boost resource confidence and explore further growth potential. Two additional rigs are scheduled to join the operation in the second quarter of next year. The latest drilling confirms high-grade gold mineralisation at Wharekirauponga. With three rigs already working and two more planned, OceanaGold is expanding its exploration efforts. The focus remains on increasing resource certainty and uncovering additional deposits in the area.
