Obstruction on Street Prevents Fire and Rescue Access

The first Wednesday in July saw record crowds at the Zarrenthin Bathing Area, leading to a chaotic parking situation that lasted well into the evening. The public recreation area, popular beyond its own region and Vorpommern, witnessed a surge in visitors, filling the parking lot by midday and making maneuvering difficult.

The narrow Zarrenthin road, leading from Jarmen, is the only possible emergency lane to the plots at its end and the bathing area. Without alternative parking management or additional parking spaces, the problem is unlikely to be resolved. On Wednesday, parked cars could have blocked rescue vehicles, especially large fire trucks or their boat trailers.

The deputy mayor of Jarmen has urged a reaction from the municipalities due to the ongoing issue. Some people had no choice but to park on the Zarrenthin road due to lack of alternative parking. The gravel pit separating Zarrenthin into two parts, with one part belonging to the municipality of Bentzin, adds to the complexity of the parking issue.

To address this problem, several potential solutions have been proposed. One approach is parking capacity management, which includes monitoring and limiting the number of vehicles entering the area, and utilizing digital signage or apps to inform visitors about parking availability.

Another solution is the creation of designated parking zones. This could involve assigning parking areas for different types of vehicles, such as cars, bicycles, or RVs, and reserving spaces for emergency vehicles. Off-site parking options with shuttle services, park-and-ride facilities connected to the bathing area via public transport, and clear signage are also suggested.

Parking enforcement is another key aspect. Regular patrols to enforce parking rules and ensure that unauthorized parking is addressed promptly are essential. Encouraging sustainable transport, such as walking, cycling, and improving public transport connections, is also proposed.

Traffic flow management solutions, such as one-way systems and employing staff to manage traffic flow during peak hours, are also suggested. Smart parking systems, including smart parking sensors and mobile apps for parking, are proposed to help find, reserve, and pay for parking spaces remotely.

By implementing these solutions, the Zarrenthin Bathing Area can effectively manage parking, reduce congestion, and ensure easy access for emergency services. The topic will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Jarmen-Tutow district committee, with the hope of finding a lasting solution to this recurring issue.

On the upcoming meeting of the Jarmen-Tutow district committee, the implementation of smart sports parking systems, including smart parking sensors and mobile apps for booking sports-betting parking spots, is proposed to help manage parking more effectively during the busy sports season at the Zarrenthin Bathing Area. Without alternative parking management or designated sports-betting parking zones, the risk of blocking rescue vehicles during sports events remains high at the crowded bathing area.
