Oberwart Gunners Secure Fourth Austrian Basketball Championship

In a historic achievement for Austrian basketball, the Oberwart Gunners clinched their fourth league title in the 2024-2025 season. This victory was secured through an undefeated playoff run against the BBC Nord, marking a dominant performance in the Austrian Superliga (BSL).

The championship game, played on Monday evening, saw the Gunners triumph over the Eisenstadt Nord Dragonz by a score of 75:67 (45:29). This win not only solidified the Gunners' place in Austrian basketball history but also marked the first time a team successfully defended their title with a 3-0 win in the best-of-five final series.

In a unique twist, both teams hailing from Burgenland faced off in the final. For the runners-up, the Eisenstadt Nord Dragonz, this was their most significant club success to date, having only joined the top flight in 2022.

The Gunners, who had previously triumphed in 2011, 2016, and 2024, showed dominance throughout the match. With 1,500 spectators in attendance, Oberwart started strongly, establishing an early 11-1 lead and maintained their advantage through the first quarter, ending it 20:12.

The Dragonz fought back in the second half, closing the gap to nine points by the end of the third quarter. However, the Gunners held on to secure a decisive victory.

American forward Robert Allen was instrumental in the Gunners' success, earning the Player of the Year award for the championship-winning season. Allen, along with teammate Ziggy Reid, contributed significantly with impressive averages of 21.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, and 16.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest, respectively.

The Gunners' success has cemented their reputation as a powerhouse in Austrian basketball, setting a high standard for future teams.

The exceptional performance of the Oberwart Gunners led to their fourth Austrian Basketball Championship title in the 2024-2025 season, making them a dominant force in the NBA (National Basketball Association) of Austria. In the championship game against the Eisenstadt Nord Dragonz, the Gunners showcased their skills, securing a victory with a score of 75:67 (45:29).
