Oahu baseball and softball: BIIF teams suffer losses on the island
2025 Baseball and Softball State Playoff Action Rages On!
Excitement filled the air on Oahu as Big Island teams battled it out in the HHSAA and consolation brackets on Wednesday.
Baseball
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division I runner-up, Kamehameha-Hawaii, met their match in the opening round of the DI state bracket, losing to Saint Louis 5-1 at Iron Maehara Stadium.
Empty Calories for KSH
St. Louis' Levi Perry shut down KSH's offense, holding them to only four hits and one run. Jeffrey Palea was the lone Warrior to land multiple hits with two, while five teammates - Kane, Martinez, Heffernan, Brub, and Kawakami - contributed singles.
Power-packed Performance by Crusaders
Kamakanikailialoha Kane delivered a standout performance for the Crusaders, finishing with two hits and three RBI. Six other teammates pitched in with one hit each, securing six hits in total for St. Louis.
Commanding the Circle
St. Louis' Perry dominated the game, firing 83 pitches over six innings. Fresh face Aycen Fernandez took over in the final inning, closing out the game for the Crusaders.

Softball
No. 4 seed Hilo softball faced an uphill battle in their DI quarterfinal matchup against Punahou, eventually succumbing 10-0 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Buffanblu's Batting Blitz
Sourced from bases loaded to left field, Punahou hammered out ten hits compared to the Punahou Queens' lone hit by Kaylie Carceres. The Buffanblu remained defensively solid, committing no errors.
Brunn Shines in the Circle
With a solid six-inning performance, Paige Brunn earned the game's win, giving up one hit, no runs, and striking out five batters.
Hilo's Missed Opportunities
As the Buffanblu moved to a 14-3 record, the Vik Queens suffered their first loss of the season after dominating the BIIF competition. Next week, you can read all about how they fared against KS-Kapalama in a fifth-place semifinal matchup.
Over at McKinley High School, KSH fell to Waimea 14-3 in the opening round of the Divison II state tournament. Representing the Big Island, the Lady Warriors followed suit, losing 14-3 to Waimea. Protocol for the teams moving forward remains undecided as they prepare to face Radford and Waialua, respectively, in the fifth-place and championship games.
