NYT Sneak Peek for Today: Additional Clues and Solutions for crossword puzzle on September 19th

The New York Times Mini crossword, a quick and engaging version of the larger, long-running crossword, presented a challenge for Thursday, September 18. With a 5x5 grid and between 3 and 5 clues in each direction, it was a fun and speedy puzzle to tackle.

In this edition, the answer for 4 Down was the German philosopher Immanuel Kant. The clue for 8 Across read, "Something you might say when placing a wager," and the answer was a fitting "I Bet." The answer for 3 Down was an intriguing "Alien," while 1 Down was the former pro wrestler Ric Flair, hinted by the clue "Former pro wrestler Ric."

The answer for 1 Across was a tiny piece of fish food, appropriately named "Flake." The clue for 2 Down was "Purgatory," and the answer was "Limbo." The answer for 6 Across was a nice-smelling springtime shrub that's purple or white, the elegant "Lilac."

The answer for 7 Across was "Amino," a fatty acid that's synthesized by living cells, as suggested by the clue. The answer for 5 Down was "Eco," and the clue for 3 Down hinted at a popular type of creature in sci-fi stories.

The answer for 9 Across was a reference to the character Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation, alongside director Howard and Will Ferrell's newsreader character Burgundy.

The writer, who completed the crossword in just 39 seconds, admitted to a slight mistake in guessing "mauve" for 6 Across. However, they did manage to fill most of the Down answers, despite missing the answer for "I Bet."
