Crack the NYT Mini Crossword Puzzle: Answers for May 7th

April showers are behind us, and sunshine is upon us. The drizzly weather lately has me confined indoors, gazing out the window at the blooming cherry trees gracing my front yard like soft pink clouds hanging low. If only we could capture the essence of spring all year long.

It's an ideal day for problem-solving, indeed. Let's dive into today's Mini Crossword.

The NYT Mini is a smaller, snappier, and more manageable version of its bigger, more demanding sibling, the NYT Crossword, and, unlike its elder counterpart, it's absolutely free to solve on the New York Times website or the NYT Games app. However, to access previous puzzles in the archives, you'll need a NYT Games subscription.

If you're in need of a quick assist with the Mini Crossword, check out the answers below. Remember, spoilers ahead!

ACROSS

1 - Adjective that rhymes with "roister" or "hoist" - SINEwy

6 - Gigantic sea creature, famously filmed in its natural habitat in 2025 - COLOSSAL SQUID

7 - Furry little caterpillars - FURY creatures

8 - Some devoted strides - COMMITED steps

9 - Timeless buddy of cinema - TEDDY (Wouldn't it be neat if it was Tim Allen's Toy Story character?)

DOWN

1 - Cryptic alert, a digital no-no for the masses - NSFW (Short for "Not Safe For Work")

2 - Iconic breakup line - I QUIT (Goes great with a dramatic walk-off)

3 - A curvy road's signature feature - BEND

4 - New addition to the payroll - HIRE

5 - Delectable ice cream brand, popular on the East Coast - EDY'S

I found this one rather challenging at first, but once I got a hang of "Some devoted strides" and the Bill and Ted reference, things started to click. Others, such as BEND, were straightforward, while still some, like EDY'S, I would have been lost without assistance. Looks like I'm more of a West Coast chap. It took me 1 minute and 31 seconds to complete this one.
