Today's NYT Connection Puzzle (Game #719) - The Answers

The answers to today's Connection puzzle are:

  • YELLOW: RODS
  • BAT, CLUB, STAFF, STICK
  • GREEN: THEY'RE ON A ROLL!
  • FOIL, RIBBON, TAPE, TOILET PAPER
  • BLUE: COMMON SWAG ITEMS
  • HAT, TEE, TOTE, WATER BOTTLE
  • PURPLE: WORDS BEFORE 'SHACK'
  • CADDY, LOVE, RADIO, SHAKE
  • My rating: Easy
  • My score: 1 mistake

By "Common swag items," I mean items companies often give away with their logos on them that you'll use once before forgetting about them. Or, in the case of a water bottle or mug, items that people bring to work and eventually add to a growing collection of forgotten items.

I didn't consider the swag element when organizing the group; I thought it was things intended for the beach, causing me to include RADIO instead of TEE. Radio was also my downfall when attempting to crack the "Words Before 'Shack'" group, which included one of the all-time great comedies ("Love, Actually") and a relentless earworm that will be stuck in my head for days.
