NYT Connections Celebrates 1,000th Puzzle with a Clever Twist

The New York Times has marked a major milestone with its Connections game. Today's edition is the 1000th since the game's launch in 2023. Millions of players have registered to track their progress, making it one of the most popular word games in recent years.

The special edition features a unique twist: the grid includes 'ONE THOU SAND' alongside the game's logo, replacing one of the usual words. A new Connections Bot also helps players analyze their answers and monitor their statistics over time.

The 1000th puzzle follows the game's familiar format but with a few surprises. The yellow group centers on the theme of $1, with answers like buck, dollar, one, and single. The blue category lists words that come before castle: bouncy, New, sand, and white.

For the green group, players had to spot a Shakespearean reference. The theme was 'Wherefore art thou Romeo?', with answers including art, Romeo, thou, and wherefore. Meanwhile, the purple category took a playful turn. Its theme—where you might make a connection—included airport, dating app, internet cafe, and this game, turning the puzzle into a meta challenge about the game itself.

Since its debut, Connections has grown rapidly. By early 2026, over 10 million players had signed up through the Times Games section to record their scores and compare performance. The newly introduced Connections Bot now offers additional insights, allowing registered users to review their guessing patterns and track improvements over time.

The 1000th edition of Connections highlights the game's enduring appeal. Players can now use the Connections Bot to refine their strategies and follow their progress. With millions actively engaged, the puzzle remains a daily challenge for word enthusiasts worldwide.
