New York City Mayor Race: Zohran Mamdani Maintains Lead in General Election

In the race for New York City mayor, the Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani is leading the five-way general election, according to the latest polling data from 2025. Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist New York State Assembly member, has garnered nearly 42% of the vote, followed by independent former Governor Andrew Cuomo with 23.4%.

Mamdani's campaign has resonated with voters, particularly those concerned about affordability, rent control, and public services. His grassroots support and energized base of new and younger voters have propelled him to a commanding lead following the June Democratic primary.

Cuomo's campaign did not comment on the survey, while Mamdani's campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams has 8.8% of the vote, with independent attorney Jim Walden securing 1.4% and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa earning 16.5%. A sizable 7.9% of voters remain undecided.

In a head-to-head matchup with Cuomo, Mamdani is still ahead by 11 points (42% to 31.0%). If Adams were to exit the race, Mamdani would still lead Cuomo by 14 points (42.6% to 28.6%).

Mamdani's lead is evident across all racial and ethnic demographic groups: Black (48%), Hispanic (45%), and Asian (48%) voters. Cuomo does best among Jewish voters, with 38% support compared to Mamdani's 22%.

The energy is on Adams' side, according to his campaign, who have raised millions of dollars, enlisted thousands of volunteers, and earned the backing of local businesses. However, the sizable undecided bloc in the consolidated tests could potentially make the race competitive, depending on who drops out.

Gotham Polling and Analytics President Stephen Graves stated that Mamdani has a firm ceiling below a majority but is likely to stay ahead in a split field, while Cuomo has the best path among challengers but still trails by double digits. The race for New York City mayor promises to be an interesting and closely contested one as the election day approaches.
