NYC Gunman Shane Devon Tamura's Final Letter: Contents and Involved Parties Revealed

In a shocking turn of events, a deadly shooting took place at 345 Park Avenue, a skyscraper housing the NFL's main offices, Blackstone, and KPMG, on Monday evening at around 6:40 p.m. The gunman, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old former high school football player from Las Vegas, was heavily armed and wearing body armor.

The shooting occurred inside the building that houses the NFL headquarters, claiming the lives of four individuals: a NYPD officer, a security guard, a young professional, and a top executive at Blackstone. Tamura exchanged gunshots with a NYPD officer in the lobby before fleeing to the upper floors. After a standoff with police, Tamura fatally shot himself on the 33rd floor.

Tamura left behind a three-page suicide note, in which he accused the NFL of knowingly covering up the risks of brain injury in order to protect profits. He claimed that repeated head trauma from playing football had caused him to develop a brain disease linked to repeated head trauma, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

In the note, Tamura referenced Terry Long, a former Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE and died by suicide in 2005 after ingesting antifreeze. He also expressed regret and sorrow to someone named Rick in a second note discovered at his Las Vegas home.

It's important to note that there is no confirmed diagnosis that Tamura actually had CTE or suffered traumatic brain injury. His accusations are contextualized by ongoing disputes and lawsuits about the NFL’s handling of CTE. CTE can only be definitively diagnosed postmortem and is associated with symptoms like memory loss, mood changes, and confusion.

The tragedy marks the 254th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani expressed his condolences for the victims and the NYPD officer, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul was briefed on the incident. Authorities have confirmed that Tamura legally owned the weapon in Nevada.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing controversies surrounding the NFL and CTE, with former players and families accusing the league of covering up the risks and effects of CTE associated with playing football. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on the lives lost and the families affected by this tragic event.
