NY Mets star sets a new record in franchise history, surpassing a milestone that had previously stood for 37 years.
Mets' Pete Alonso Breaks Franchise Home Run Record
Pete Alonso made history on August 12, 2025, as he broke the New York Mets' franchise home run record with his 253rd homer. The record-breaking moment came in a game where Alonso homered twice, setting a franchise record for career two-homer games with 25.
Alonso's impressive feat was not the only highlight for the Mets in the game. Teammates Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty also homered, helping the team to hit all six of their homers with two outs. This achievement ties the mark for a single game in the expansion era.
The Mets' victory was a significant one, as it snapped a seven-game skid and marked their second win in 13 games. Brandon Nimmo contributed to the win with a three-run homer in the fourth inning.
Before Alonso surpassed the record, it had been held exclusively by Darryl Strawberry since May 3, 1988. Strawberry held the record for 37 years, and after Alonso's record-breaking homer, he became the new sole all-time home run leader for the Mets. Only two players in Mets history have held sole possession of the franchise all-time home run record - Strawberry and Alonso.
In the upcoming game against the Mets on Wednesday, Carlos Carrasco is scheduled to start for the Braves, while David Peterson will take the mound for the Mets. It will be an interesting match-up, given that Carrasco's current ERA is 6.18, while Peterson's stands at 2.98.
The Mets' recent success is a welcome change for fans, who have been eagerly following the team's progress. The first homer in the Mets' history was hit by Gil Hodges on April 11, 1962, and it's clear that the team's home run record has come a long way since then.
