Nürburgring Endurance Series redefines racing with one-day thrills on the Nordschleife
The Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) offers a unique racing experience on the legendary Nordschleife. Unlike traditional motorsport events, its weekends pack all the action into a single day, usually a Saturday. The series stands out for its tight schedules, diverse car classes, and innovative safety measures.
The NLS runs exclusively on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, attracting over 100 cars per race. These are split across more than 20 classes, ensuring fair competition between different vehicle types. The fastest machines, including GT3 cars like those driven by Max Verstappen, compete in the SP9 category.
Races last four hours, with one event stretching to six. Each starts three times, grouping cars by speed to avoid congestion. Safety is managed without traditional safety cars or red flags—instead, speed limits and 'Code 60' slow zones keep drivers in check.
Space in the paddock is limited, so up to six cars often share a single garage. To balance performance, the series uses 'Balance of Performance' adjustments. This levels the playing field between different car designs, from touring cars to purpose-built racers.
While the NLS runs multiple events, the famous 24 Hours of Nürburgring remains separate. The 2024 season features classes like SP-X (including BMW's M3 Touring 24H) and Porsche's Endurance Trophy categories, though no full list of entries has been published.
The NLS continues to draw large grids and varied machinery to the Nordschleife. Its compact format, safety rules, and performance balancing set it apart from other endurance series. Fans can expect intense multi-class racing across the season's events.
