In the heart of Portugal, the city of Viseu is preparing for its municipal election on October 12. The race is heating up as several candidates have thrown their hats into the ring, including Hélder Amaral, who aims to make a significant impact.

Hélder Amaral, a contender for the Municipal Chamber of Viseu, has set his sights on the presidency. With a focus on green spaces, Amaral hopes to build upon his previous ephemeral garden initiative and create 'eternal gardens' in the city. His vision is to bring gardens to Viseu all year round, transforming the city into a verdant oasis.

The voter turnout in Viseu during the last election in 2021 was 52,189 out of a total of 92,444 registered voters. The political landscape was dominated by the PSD, which secured 46.68% of the votes (five mandates), and the PS, which garnered 38.26% (four mandates). The Chega party came in third with 2.95%, while the IL took fourth place with 2.20%. The CDU, the last political force in 2021, had 1.17% of the electorate.

Nuno Melo, the leader of the CDS, has expressed his desire to maintain the local governments won by his party and aims to grow them if possible. Melo is also keen on promoting commerce in Viseu, combining new and old business models to boost the city's economy. He has plans to value commerce in Viseu and wants to promote flower festivals similar to those in Ponte de Lima.

Melo has not yet committed to a presidential candidacy, but he has stated that he would support one if the lineup is finalized. He has also emphasised his goal of winning mandates in the Municipal Chamber of Viseu.

The CDS-PP recently inaugurated its headquarters in Viseu's historic centre on Rua Direita. Besides Hélder Amaral, other candidates in the race include Fernando Ruas (PSD), João Azevedo (PS), Bernardo Pessanha (Chega), Hélio Marta (IL), Leonel Ferreira (CDU), and Paulo Quintão (ADN).

In addition to his plans for Viseu's centre, Amaral has ideas for the creation of wine fairs of the Dão, which could further enhance the city's cultural and economic appeal. As the election approaches, the race is on, and the citizens of Viseu eagerly await the results.
