Number of intelligent agents (IA) in Russia exceeds a thousand

The Russian Ministry of Justice has expanded the list of foreign agents, now totaling 1,004 individuals and organizations.

Effective May 30, the following entities were added to the registry:

  • Demographer Alexei Raksha,
  • Author Alexei Ekler,
  • Human rights advocate Alexander Cherkasov,
  • Photographer Evgenia Feldman,
  • Journalist Grigoriy Ohotin,
  • Human rights activist Alexander Polivano,
  • Project "Moscow Against Mobilization."

Under Russian law, an individual can be classified as a foreign agent if they receive foreign financial support or are under foreign influence.

As of June 1, Rosfinmonitoring will have the authority to introduce hundreds of new individuals to the list of extremists and terrorists. Individuals who are convicted or accus-ed of public displays of Nazi or extremist symbols, the distribution of misinformation about the military, or public actions aimed at discrediting the Russian Armed Forces will automatically be included in the list.

According to the Russian Foreign Agents Law, individuals who engage in political activities and receive foreign funding must register as foreign agents, subjecting them to certain restrictions such as prohibitions on holding public office, educating minors, and participating in internal Russian affairs.
