Nuclear submarines deployed near Russia by Trump in retaliation to judgmental remarks

In a move that has escalated geopolitical tensions, President Trump has ordered two nuclear submarines to be moved closer to Russia. This decision comes in response to perceived threats from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who has been critical of Trump's policies towards Moscow.

Medvedev, known for his less diplomatic approach towards the U.S. compared to Putin, made "highly provocative statements" towards President Trump on social media. He compared Trump's threats to a step towards war and stated that Russia isn't Israel or Iran. Medvedev also mocked Trump using a reference to Joe Biden's nickname.

Trump, in turn, claimed that Medvedev's remarks contained threats, specifically about nuclear matters. The President did not specify whether he referred to nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed submarines.

This is the first time Medvedev has responded to Trump's latest comments since Thursday morning. The former Russian President responded to Trump's comment about him being a "failed former President of Russia" by stating that Russia is right and will continue to go its own way.

Medvedev has also argued that if the U.S. were to send nuclear weapons to Ukraine, Russia would have grounds to respond with an atomic attack. Trump has threatened Russia with secondary sanctions if Moscow does not stop its ongoing war on Ukraine by Aug. 8.

The location of the submarines is usually kept secret by the military, and the Nuclear Threat Initiative noted that this move was explicitly in reaction to Russian threats, implying an escalation in the geopolitical standoff.
