Here's the lowdown: Tehran's buzzing with news that the next round of negotiations between Iran and the US over the nuclear program will take place on Sunday, said to be in Oman, according to Iran's Tasnim news agency, which cited a member of the negotiating team. There's still no official word from the US.

The fourth round, initially slated for May 4 in Rome, got the ax due to "logistical reasons," according to Oman, the mediator. It's rumored that there were not just logistical issues, but also disagreements and hurdles in the initial negotiating positions[1][2]. This face-off has been a three-way dance so far, involving US special envoy Steve Biegun, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi as the well-versed mediator[1][2].

Back in 2015, Iran agreed to scale back its nuclear program for the lifting of sanctions. This deal, intended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, crashed in 2018 courtesy of the Trump administration[1]. Iran then stopped adhering to the terms[1]. Now, Trump's hot on the trail of a new deal with the Islamic Republic, while also flexing his military muscle, hinting at strikes if no agreement sees the light of day[1].
