Nuclear negotiations with Iran scheduled for Sunday
Nukin' It Again in Oman: US-Iran Nuclear Talks Resume on May 11
Get ready for another round of negotiations! The United States and Iran will face off again in Oman on Sunday, May 11, over the contentious issue of Iran's nuclear program. Tehran's Tasnim news agency broke the news, citing a member of the Iranian delegation. But no confirmation has been received yet from the US side.
This fourth round of talks, initially scheduled for May 3 in Rome, hit a snag due to "logistical reasons." However, experts believe the real reason behind the delay is the initial disagreements in the negotiating positions. The previous discussions, led by Iran's Foreign Minister and Steve Witkoff from the US, have been attended by Oman as the mediator.
Iran agreed to significantly curb its nuclear program way back in 2015, in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. The deal aimed to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons but was abandoned by the Trump administration in 2018. Since then, Iran has not adhered to the terms either. Trump is now keen on striking a new deal with the Islamic Republic, but with the threat of military action lurking, if no agreement is forthcoming.
Israel has been vocal about its concerns regarding a potential new deal. It fears the agreement may not adequately address the issue of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Oh, and by the way, a fifth round of talks? Well, we're still waiting for an official announcement on that one.

The Commission, in light of the ongoing negotiations, has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, due to the renewed focus on nuclear matters. The resumption of talks between the US and Iran, regarding Iran's nuclear program, has spurred discussions on war-and-conflicts and politics, beyond just general news. WhatsApp messages reportedly agreed upon a date for the talks, scheduled for May 11 in Oman. Israel, while backing the talks, has expressed concerns about the adequacy of any potential new deal in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
