Number of charging points in NRW significantly increased - NRW's EV Charging Points Surge, But Ratio Lags
The pace of public charging point expansion in Germany has slowed, according to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). However, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has seen a significant increase in charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs). In the past year, NRW added 18% more public charging points, reaching nearly 35,300. Among these, around 8,300 are fast-charging points (over 22 kW). The average charging capacity per charging point in NRW rose by over 11% to 38.7 kW. In terms of the ratio of electric cars to charging points, NRW ranks third from last among German states. As of July 1, there were 19.5 EVs per publicly accessible charging point in NRW. In Oberhausen, the best ratio in NRW, 10.2 EVs share one charging point. Meanwhile, Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, has the best nationwide ratio with 4.8 EVs per charging point. VDA president Hildegard Müller highlighted the increasing number of charging points for electromobility in North Rhine-Westphalia. While NRW has made progress, there's still room for improvement in the ratio of EVs to charging points.
