Meet the New Nuremberg Christ Child: Nelli Lunkenheimer (17)

Nuremberg, Germany - After getting elected, 17-year-old schoolgirl Nelli Lunkenheimer has stepped into a new role: the Nuremberg Christ Child. Her first time donning the golden dress and crown went down without a hitch at the State Theater.

Nelli has a wardrobe fit for a queen, complete with two stunning dresses for her role. One for the outdoors, featuring stiffer sleeves that withstand even the stormiest of gusts, and another for indoor functions, with lighter, comfy sleeves.

Fun fact: The dresses of former ChristChildren live in the State Theater's collection, just in case. The Nuremberg Christ Child always likes to have a backup dress on hand.

It's crown time! Nelli Lunkenheimer, with the help of make-up artist Helke Hadlich, is crowned as the Nuremberg Christ Child

The golden, brass-plated crown weighing just under a kilogram has been in use for the past ten years. theater armorer Peter Hofmann (38) has only made minor adjustments to ensure it fits Nelli perfectly. Her thoughts on it so far: "It's comfy, doesn't pinch, won't give me any trouble."

The blonde wig is an unexpected addition to her usual brunette locks. Nelli, though, is confident it suits her: "Maybe I'll stick with blonde, it looks good!"

The transformation takes roughly three-quarters of an hour, from start to finish – including make-up. Helke Hadlich (65), the make-up artist, is thrilled with Nelli's performance: "She's amazing, she has incredible charisma, and she can easily immerse herself in her role."

Nelli can't wait for the opening of the Christkindlesmarkt, excited to make new connections and take part in the enchanting Franconian tradition. December 1, 5:30 PM – mark your calendars!
