In a nostalgic journey back to the early 2000s, RTL will air the film adaptation of Felix Lobrecht's acclaimed novel, "Sun and Concrete". The premiere is set for Sunday, 3rd of August, at 8:15 PM, and the streaming platform RTL+ will be the initial release for the film.

The film adaptation stays faithful to the original novel, offering a societal panorama that prompts thoughts about social justice and the self-perpetuation of violence. Set in the Neukölln Gropiusstadt, the story follows four boys growing up amidst shattered families, aimless men, high-rise slums, and backroom deals.

Lukas, one of the main characters, is portrayed by an unknown actor. He is a troubled teen who, along with his friends, plans to break into their school and steal the new computers. Lukas has an older brother who holds a different perspective on life, often dismissing his brother's troubles with the phrase "The wise one kicks back."

The film adaptation features familiar elements from the early 2000s, such as Cherry Coke, landline phones, and footage from the time of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. It also includes compelling dialogue, like "Have you looked in the mirror? Your whole face is fucked up".

Felix Lobrecht, the author of the novel, confirmed that the producers of the film adaptation understood the book best. Lobrecht is a successful author, comedian, and podcast host, with the "New York Times" writing about him. The film was produced by Fabian Gasmia.

"Sun and Concrete" was a bestseller when it was first published in 2023, and the film adaptation is expected to capture the same attention. If you're looking for a gripping story that takes you on a journey through the lives of four boys growing up in the south of Berlin, mark your calendars for August 3, 2025. You can watch it on RTL+, the streaming platform of RTL, or catch it later on the main RTL channel.
