Notre Dame Cathedral towers now open for public visitation, marking six years since the devastating fire incident.
Notre-Dame de Paris Towers Reopen, Offering Unparalleled Views of Paris
After a long wait, the towers of Notre-Dame de Paris are set to reopen this Saturday, marking the definitive reopening of all its spaces following the devastating 2019 fire. This historic moment is causing great joy and anticipation among locals and tourists alike.
The reopening of Notre-Dame's towers is a significant milestone, with a limit of 400,000 visitors per year, while around 30,000 people enter the Notre-Dame cathedral daily. The tour offers a unique experience, lasting about 45 minutes, and is not for the faint-hearted. Good physical condition is required to access the tour, as it consists of 424 steps and narrow passages.
The visit begins at the base of the South Tower, where a spiral staircase leads to a medieval room that displays two original chimera saved from the fire six years ago. From there, visitors ascend to the first room halfway up, before continuing their journey to the North Tower.
The tour offers an exceptional 360-degree view of Paris, including the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the Pantheon's dome, the Île-Saint-Louis, and the Eiffel Tower. The end of the tour in the North Tower is accompanied by a sound creation by composer Valérie Vivancos.
Agencies AFP and ANSA have reported on the news of Notre-Dame's tower reopening. The organization responsible for the redesign of the tourist route between Earth and Heaven in Notre-Dame de Paris is the Centre des Monuments Nationaux.
It's important to note that the tour is not recommended for people with heart problems, people with vertigo, pregnant women, or young children. Getting tickets for the tower visit is more complicated than visiting the cathedral itself due to high demand. Reservations for the tower visit can only be made online.
Notre-Dame de Paris, currently the most visited monument in France, offers a view of the reconstructed wooden roof, known as the "forest," of Notre-Dame from the cistern courtyard. The "bourdons" bells Emmanuel (13.3 tons) and Marie (6.2 tons) can be found indoors after the terrace.
In France, the reopening of Notre-Dame's towers is highly anticipated. Starting this Saturday, the towers of Notre-Dame de Paris will be open for public ascension, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the beauty of Paris from a new perspective.
