Tsunehiko Kamijo, a renowned Japanese singer and actor, passed away on July 22, 2023, at the age of 85 in a hospital in Nagano, Japan. Born on March 7, 1940, in Nagano Prefecture, Kamijo began his music career in 1962.

In 1971, Kamijo achieved international recognition when he won the grand prix at an international song festival with "Tabidachi no Uta" (song for departure). This victory marked a significant milestone in his career.

Kamijo was also an active actor, making his mark in the world of musical theatre. He appeared in several productions, including "Man of La Mancha," where he played the role of a leader of prisoners and innkeeper more than 900 times. His performance in this production was particularly noteworthy.

In "Man of La Mancha," Kamijo supported Matsumoto Hakuo, who played the main character. He also appeared in other musicals such as "Fiddler on the Roof" and "My Fair Lady."

In 1972, Kamijo's career reached new heights when "Dareka ga Kaze no Naka de" (somebody in the wind), a song he sung, became a hit. This song was the theme song for the television period drama "Kogarashi Monjiro."
