Thomas Starke: A Musical Journey
Our focus today is on Thomas Starke, a name synonymous with symphonic excellence. Born in 1952 in Celle, this maestro has carved a niche for himself in the world of music.
Thomas began his musical odyssey in 1967, when he started learning the oboe under the tutelage of H. Tauscher. By 1971, he was enrolled at the prestigious Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media, where he honed his skills further under the guidance of Klaus Thunemann. After graduating in 1976, Thomas's career took Flight with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra.
In the years that followed, he served as the principal oboist at the State Theatre Braunschweig for a season before shifting to the Lower Saxony State Theatre Hannover. This was a prelude to his current role, as the principal and solo oboist of the esteemed Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, a position he has held since 1979.
Thomas's teaching career began in 1987, when he joined the faculty at the Lübeck University of Music. His tenure extended until 2003, after which he became a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. In addition, he served as a guest professor at the "Affinis Music Festival" in Japan in 2003/04.
