In the courtroom, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, a triple gold medalist in the Paris and Tokyo Games, accused his father Gjert of instilling fear and control during his childhood. However, Gjert denied the accusations during his defense.

Norwegian Olympic gold medalist's father, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, found not guilty following trial over alleged mistreatment of son Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

A sports coach, known as Gjert Ingebrigtsen, has walked away from a high-profile Norwegian court trial free, avoiding jail time after being found guilty of a minor assault against his daughter, Ingrid. He will serve a 15-day suspended sentence and pay around £730 in compensation, following a trial that left Norway's gossip mill churning.

The man in question is the proud father of Olympic gold-medalist son, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who won gold in the 5,000m at the Paris Games and 1,500m in Tokyo. But Jakob has claimed that his childhood was steeped in fear and manipulation. Prosecutors had aimed to lock Gjert away for two-and-a-half years due to an alleged years-long campaign of domestic abuse towards both Jakob and his younger sister.

Gjert, however, claims to have been overprotective and simply wanting to help his ambitious children. His legal team, including Heidi Reisvang, stated that there was no evidence to prove Gjert created an environment of continuous fear for his children.

Heidi also emphasized that there were no winners in this case. Gjert, she stated, hopes to rebuild a relationship with his family at some point in the future.

The Ingebrigtsens shot to fame through the TV documentary series "Team Ingebrigtsen," showcasing father Gjert coaching his three sons, Jakob, Filip, and Henrik, in various track-and-field events. However, in 2022, the sons parted ways, leading to a newspaper column in 2023, accusing Gjert of physical violence and intimidation. These allegations sparked a police investigation.

Interestingly, Gjert now coaches Narve Gilje Nordas, Jakob's rival in the 1,500m. The family's reaction to the verdict or the prosecution's plans for an appeal have not been specified in the available reports[1].

[1] Incorporated insights: The trial lasted nearly two months, involving numerous witnesses such as family members, sporting officials, and other athletes. The family gained prominence through the TV documentary series "Team Ingebrigtsen." In 2022, the sons parted ways, and in 2023, they co-signed a newspaper column accusing Gjert of physical violence and intimidation, leading to a police investigation. The sources for this information are not explicitly listed in the base article but can be assumed to be from the widespread media coverage of the trial.

In light of the closed trial, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, whose coaching career was pictured in "Team Ingebrigtsen," now finds himself in an unusual position of coaching his rival, Narve Gilje Nordas, in sports, a stark contrast to the domestic abuse allegations that originated from his own family. The verdict, however, has left open possibilities for a reconciliation between the Ingebrigtsen family members.
