Norway set to allocate proceeds from sales of tickets for a soccer match against Israel to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
The Norwegian Football Association (NFA) has made a significant move to support the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The NFA announced that ticket sales for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Israel, scheduled for October 11 at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, will be donated to medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
The decision comes in response to the grave humanitarian suffering in Gaza, a situation that the NFA President, Lise Klaveness, has criticized as disproportionate attacks targeting the region for far too long.
The Ullevaal Stadium, with a capacity to host about 27,000 spectators, is expected to be sold out for the match. The funds from these ticket sales will be used to help alleviate humanitarian suffering in Gaza, as stated by the NFA.
Lindis Hurum, the secretary general of the Norwegian branch of MSF, expressed her gratitude for this significant contribution from the donors. She emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to require urgent financial and moral support. Hurum, who also works in a leadership capacity for MSF in Norway, stated that MSF colleagues in Gaza need all possible financial and moral support.
Hurum was moved by the donation, noting that MSF is providing concrete, emergency aid on the ground in Gaza. The Norwegian Football Federation believes it is justified to give the ticket sales to Doctors Without Borders, a decision aimed at helping alleviate humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
The Norwegian Football Federation is not indifferent to the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, as Klaveness also mentioned. She reiterated the NFA's commitment to supporting humanitarian causes, making the Norway vs. Israel match a unique event with a noble cause.
The Norwegian branch of MSF has welcomed the NFA's decision, expressing their support for the initiative. With this move, the Norwegian Football Association hopes to contribute to the relief efforts in Gaza, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the ongoing crisis.
