Norway secures victory against Latvia in their climactic pre-world championship encounter

The Latvian national ice hockey team's World Championship journey began on a surprising note, as they tied 24-24 with Norway - a scoreline mirroring their previous defeat.

The game, played with high intensity and passion, saw the first goal scored by Kristaps Skrastins for Latvia in the opening period. The Norwegian team, however, managed to secure the victory in overtime, thanks to Jakobs Berglunds' second goal.

Just before the end of regulation, the home team equalised, playing without a goalkeeper, setting the stage for an exciting overtime.

The Latvians have had a mixed bag of results in their recent games. They clinched two victories against Austria in their away matches, but suffered losses in Riga against Finland and Switzerland, managing to win one game each.

The Latvian team's head coach, Harijs Viļtolinš, announced on May 6 that he would reveal the players travelling to the World Championship on that day. However, as of now, there are no search results specifying the names of the selected players.

The World Championship games will take place between May 10 and May 20. The Latvian team's first match is against France on May 10. They will also face Canada on May 11 and Slovenia on May 13.

The group for the Latvian team includes Canada, Slovenia, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, and Austria. The four strongest teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals.

After their home game against Slovenia, the team will return home and then travel to Stockholm for the world championships next weekend. Their next challenge will be against Sweden on May 14.

The World Championship matches will be broadcast live on news service.lv and replay.lv, ensuring fans can follow the team's journey from the comfort of their homes.
