Northern Russia Braces for Cyclone as Emergency Plans Activate

A powerful cyclone is set to strike the Ayano-Maysky District in northern Khabarovsk Krai within days. Local authorities have activated emergency plans to reduce risks from heavy snow, blizzards, and winds reaching 15 metres per second. Sergei Alberтовsky, the district head, confirmed that preparations are underway to protect residents and infrastructure. Emergency response teams have been mobilised, with backup power sources tested and essential equipment prepared. Utility companies and energy facilities remain on high alert, ready to address potential outages. Dispatch services are running non-stop, with Alberтовsky personally coordinating efforts and staying in direct contact with settlement leaders.

Road maintenance crews have positioned 14 units of specialised machinery across key locations. Five units are stationed in Ayan, six in Nelkan, two in Aim, and one in Dzhiga. These teams will respond quickly to clear snow and restore access if roads become blocked. Alberтовsky reassured the public that the district's equipment is fully operational and specialists are deployed. He emphasised strong coordination between agencies and local administrations. However, as of April 3, 2026, no official data confirms how many settlements face immediate risks. Local reports suggest remote areas may still experience energy disruptions due to the harsh conditions.

The district has taken preemptive steps to limit the cyclone's impact. Emergency teams, backup systems, and road crews remain on standby. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels as the storm approaches.
