Northeastern India Experiences Monsoon Chaos: IMD Warns of Orange Alert for Assam and Meghalaya on June 4 | Stay Updated with Weather Forecasts

Weather Watch: India Awaits Monsoon's Strength, braces for Heavy Downpours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Assam and Meghalaya, predicting significant rainfall on June 4 across these regions. This heavy rainfall is part of the monsoon's strengthening in several areas of India, as per the latest IMD weather bulletin.

Monsoon Mayhem in Northeast

Heavy rain will drench Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Tuesday, only to subside on Wednesday. However, the IMD has warned of potential floods, waterlogging, and landslides in weak points of Assam and Meghalaya due to the continuous rains.

Thunder and Gusts on a Rampage

Parts of northwest and central India are witnessing chaotic weather activity. Thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are predicted in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, lasting until June 5.

A thundersquall with wind speeds of up to 70 kmph is likely in Himachal Pradesh and surrounding regions. Meanwhile, hailstorms were reported in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday. The IMD attributes the unsettled weather to a western disturbance and cyclonic circulation over Punjab, Haryana, and northwest Uttar Pradesh.

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan are at risk for scattered heavy rainfall.

Heatwave Woes in Eastern India

While the monsoon storms rage in the north and south, eastern India is grappling with heatwave conditions, particularly in Odisha. The temperatures in Odisha are expected to stay high till June 6. The IMD has also predicted a heatwave in Gangetic West Bengal until June 4, with temperatures rising by 2-3°C over the next two days.

The coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are expected to experience hot and humid weather.

Downpours in Southern India

Monsoon rains will linger in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and some parts of Andhra Pradesh until June 5. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and coastal Karnataka on Wednesday. Thunderstorms and squally winds (40 kmph) are also expected in Telangana and interior Karnataka.

Rough Seas for Fishermen

The IMD has extended its marine warning, warning fishermen against venturing into turbulent seas across several sea zones from June 4 to 7. These regions include the central Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar, and certain areas of the Bay of Bengal.

Rain, Thunderstorms, and Heat in Delhi-NCR

Delhi-NCR is set to face partly cloudy conditions on Wednesday with potential rain showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 50 kmph. Temperatures in the region are forecasted to be between 22-24°C (minimum) and 35-37°C (maximum).

The IMD continues to monitor the developing weather conditions, urging those in impacted areas to stay informed through official announcements.

  • The weather patterns in India are causing significant concern, with monsoon-related rainfall expected to cause potential floods, waterlogging, and landslides in the Northeast, thunderstorms and squalls in the northwest and central regions, and heatwaves in the eastern parts.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of potential environmental science disruptions due to these weather conditions, considering the impact on the climate-change scenario and the environment, especially in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
