Northeast India Organic Week bridges farmers with global buyers in Shillong

India’s organic farming sector is expanding rapidly, with exports rising from USD 213 million in 2012-13 to USD 665 million in 2024-25. To boost this growth further, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched the first Northeast India Organic Week in Shillong, Meghalaya. The event brings together farmers, exporters, and international buyers to discuss key challenges in certification, market access, and capacity building.

The week-long event highlights organic products from the region, including Lakadong turmeric, organic ginger, pineapple, teas, and orchids. APEDA has also organised a Buyer-Seller Meet, attracting 27 buyers from 14 countries. These discussions aim to strengthen trade ties and explore new markets for Indian organic goods.

The Northeast India Organic Week underscores the country’s commitment to expanding its organic farming sector. With rising production, increasing export targets, and global demand, the event provides a platform for farmers and exporters to connect with international markets. The government’s focus on certification and capacity building aims to ensure sustained growth in the coming years.
