Got a ball and a dream? That's all it takes for these fierce young ladies from northwest Germany to take to the court! Since 2024, a group of hugely talented female basketball players have been honing their skills together in Oldenburg. Marla Witte and Belinay Özdemir, two standout players from Bremen, have joined the fold and are more than ready to seize the day.
Marla Witte, a 12-year-old basketball veteran, has been playing the game since she was eight years old. She got her start in BTS Neustadt and credits the sport for helping her stay calm and focused. Witte trains tirelessly, clocking in four sessions a week - three in Neustadt and one with the North-West Girls in Oldenburg. She's currently hard at work honing her shot, aiming to score from long range as a center.
Witte isn’t alone on her journey – her fellow Bremen player Belinay Özdemir is right there with her. A talented player in her own right, Özdemir, born in 2009, is also part of the North-West Girls. The girls travel all the way to Oldenburg for training and are motivated by their team spirit and camaraderie.
Limited Basketball Prospects in Northwest Germany
